Bitdefender Threat Scanner Review
Bitdefender is an excellent Mac antivirus program. It has a high level of malware detection and a host of other useful security features. However, the application isn’t without imperfections.
The default interface is easy-to-navigate and divides features into 3 categories: Privacy, Security and Utilities. The Protection tab is a focus on the features you would expect from an antivirus suite, including real-time scanning, firewall monitoring, and ransomware countermeasures. The Privacy tab outlines ways to remain safe on the internet, such as a secure browser for the web that runs websites inside a sandbox in order to block malware from infecting your normal browser. And the Utilities tab is a place to find optimization tools and an application that shreds files with a unique algorithm that render them unrecoverable when they are deleted.
Premium plans also include a password manager and an option called “Anti-Tracker” that can block web services from tracking you overly. The program also comes with vulnerability scanners that detect outdated apps as well as weak passwords and Windows updates that haven’t yet been applied. It also provides a speedy customized scan that takes only five minutes to complete, which is quicker than competitors like Norton and TotalAV.
The only board meeting software downside to the application is its slow install process which can be a hassle for users who want to get started right away. The “Reveal in the Finder” feature of the app doesn’t work. This is a strange absence from an antivirus program that is competing with rival products that can do the same with just a few simple clicks.
